Devine Mulvey Wins Eight Pollie Awards
Devine Mulvey is proud to be the winners of eight Pollie Awards from the American Association of Political Consultants— possibly the most of any Democratic media firm.
Included in the two bags of hardware partner Julian Mulvey brought back to D.C. is a Gold Pollie for “Grande Como Tejas,” a Spanish Language spot produced for Farouk Shami’s gubernatorial campaign. Receiving one of the few Gold Pollies awarded at this year’s conference, “Grande Como Tejas” is a powerful spot that helped Farouk Shami win up to 38% of the vote in some Texas counties. This comes on the heels of the English language version winning a Reed Award for the Best Statewide Advertisement of 2010.
“It may have been the best Pollies ever,” declared Julian Mulvey. “The panels, the setting, catching up with far-flung friends. It was a terrific event.”
Devine Mulvey took home a silver Pollie for “Independence, Strength, Leadership” produced for Eliot Cuter for Governor. This spot helps Cutler separate himself from a very crowded field of candidates and establishes him as the Independent choice for Maine. The firm was also awarded two Silver Pollies for spots we produced for Steve Pagliuca for Senate, “Never Give Up,” a biographical spot that helped Steve tell his inspiring story, and “American Dream.” A spot we produced for Americans United for Safe Streets, “Next” was also honored with a Silver Pollie.
Bronze winners included “The Cycle” for Chris Doherty for Pennsylvania, also a Reed Award winner, and “All of Us” for Dan Burke for State Representative. Receiving an honorable mention was “Small Enough” produced for Steve Pagliuca for Senate.
Devine Mulvey Sweeps the Reed Awards
This weekend Devine Mulvey was honored with three Reed Awards including the distinction of having produced the “Best Television Advertisement for a Statewide Candidate” in 2009. We are proud the judges shared our belief that Big As Texas (winner: Best Television Advertisement for a Statewide Candidate) is a unique and powerful spot that introduces the state of Texas to Gubernatorial candidate Farouk Shami through his remarkable story.
Julian Mulvey, thanked his clients for the opportunity and said, “we’re committed to producing the best spots in America for our clients. It’s terrific to be recognized by such a distinguished panel of judges.”
Judges for the 2010 Reed Awards included: James Carville, Eleanor Clift, Grover Norquist, Christine Pelosi, George Stephanopoulos, Chuck Todd, Christine Todd Whitman, Judy Woodruff, and dozens of other political luminaries.
Also recognized was Devine Mulvey’s web video Gun Show Undercover Praised by the New York Times as a “groundbreaking and compelling” expose, it took home the award for “The Most Daring and Successful Tactic” used in a political advertisement. Working for the City of New York, hidden cameras revealed an astonishing number of private sellers sold guns to investigators who said they could not pass background checks. This viral video has received over 50,000 hits on YouTube and has increased awareness of the gun show loophole. Gun Show Undercover was produced with Arkadi Gerney, and is the second time our firm has received a top award collaborating with him. The first was the 2006 Gold Pollie for Best National Advertisement for “Be A Witness.”
Finally, The Cycle was recognized as the “Best Spot that Could Never Appear on The Airwaves.” Bolstered by the comedic styling of Michael Scott and the rest of the staff of “The Office”, this spot notes the fact that the Pennsylvania Governor’s mansion has switched parties every election for decades, while making a pitch for Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty for the State’s top job.

Top Campaign Takedowns
Two of the top four media “Campaign Takedowns” of this century were produced by Devine Mulvey according to the June, 2009, edition of Politics Magazine. “For all the rhetoric in campaign kickoffs about running on issues, sometimes a well-executed attack is what finishes a race,” notes the magazine, “Fact-based claims that strike a chord with voters can strike a fatal blow in a close campaign.” Devine Mulvey did just that.
The magazine spotlights Chris Carney’s game changing ad, “Father,” that was on the New York Times and Washington Post’s “Top Ten Ads of 2006” list, and that Chris Cilizza considered in a headline “The Best Ad of 2006?”. The ad helped Carney win Pennsylvania’s 10th CD with the largest vote swing (92%) of any congressional race in the country.
The magazine features a second campaign by Devine Mulvey for Illinois 92nd House seat. Jehan Gordon’s final spot “Even in Writing,” helped swing the race nearly 10 points in the final days of the campaign. The 27 year old Gordon won a stunning upset against a better funded and heavily favored candidate. Jehan is now a rising star in Illinois politics, and we are very proud to have been a part of her and Chris Carney’s campaign.

Devine Mulvey Wins Two Pollie Awards
Devine Mulvey is proud to bring home two Pollie Awards for our work last cycle from the American Association of Political Consultants! “Bobblehead” won Gold for “Best Web Animation: U.S. House,” and “True to Maine” took home the Bronze for “Best Web Animation: U.S. Senate.”
This is “Bobblehead’s” second award this year.
Devine Mulvey Wins Reed Award
“Best Ad that Never Saw the Light of Day”
At the first annual Reed Awards, presented by Campaigns & Elections, Devine Mulvey walked away with the award for “Best Ad that Never Saw the Light of Day” for Nick Leibham’s “Bobblehead.”
Nick Leibham’s unlikely campaign in California’s 50th Congressional District sought to unseat incumbent Congressman Brian Bilbray in a heavily Republican district. In order to help get the campaign on the map and move voters, we produced a series of innovative and effective ads. In fact, “Bobblehead” was not the only Leibham spot to get noticed – from “Heroes,” an ad that moved the race 17 points in one week according to a Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research poll, to “Nothing,” which was featured in Newsweek’s 2008 FactCheck Awards, and called the “Top Attack Ad of the Season” by the Sacramento Bee, our ads helped turn a twenty-point-plus deficit into a near-upset victory for Nick Leibham.
Once a safely Republican district, all eyes will be on CA-50 in 2010!
And the Pollie goes to…
Drum roll please…
Tad Devine and Julian Mulvey are proud to have brought home six awards from this year’s American Association of Political Consultants Pollie Awards. “2006 was such a hugely competitive cycle for candidates and consultants alike,” says Julian Mulvey. “We are very proud to have our work recognized by the AAPC.”
